1908 -  1927 Ford Model T  ' Rise and Fall of the Tin Lizzie '  Films DVD

This is another amazing vintage classic on the first Ford Model T: The Tin Lizzie. It is silent, of course, and this is an excerpt from the storyboard: Ford's 'universal car' had sold millions and was turning a nation of farmers into an industrial and urban giant. Probably no invention of the 20th century has so captivated the public imagination as the humble Model T Ford. So much so that nearly three quarters of a century later, a restored Model T brings many times its original price. While other cars have come and gone, the Model T remains a legendary part of our social history. Introduced to the American public in October 1908, the Model T was a relatively simple machine which remained that way until its demise in May 1927. As production increased, the price was lowered, sales and profits rose and America became a nation on wheels. Although body style s changed considerably over the years, the mechanical functions of the Model T stayed the same. When pressed by associates to redesign the car, Ford merely shrugged off the suggestion as nonsense -- why change a product he could not build fast enough as it was? Henry Ford is credited with introducing the assembly line to automotive production and indeed he did, but it didn't happen over night. It took 7 1/4 years to build and sell the first million Model T cars (Dec. 1915), but only 8 1/2 years (June 1924) from that milestone, the 10,000,000th Model T was driven from the River Rouge factory. But by 1927, Ford was in the red financially and Henry finally recognized that the day of the Model T had passed. He lost over $30,000,000 that year and closed his doors for almost a year while designing and retooling for the Model A. In that time, industry domination passed to General Motors.
