1934 - 1935 Ford Cars  Racing Collection of Vintage Films DVD

Film : "The 1934 Gilmore A.A.A. Race":  This rive minute narrated film shows the many cars and drivers engaged in the 250 miles race on a Los Angeles dirt track in 1934. You'll marvel at the lack or restraint systems for the driver and mechanic and the fact that none of them rolled over on the turns.Film: "The 1933 Elgin , Illinois Race:  It is interesting to note the lack of driver and spectator protection at the curves in this film.  This 203 mile National Stock Car Road Race produced a winning average car sped of 80.22 mph. Six minutes. Narrated. Film:  This short clip taken at some small country fair contains some cars racing, although none seem to be Fords. Film:  "The 1935 Indianapolis Race":  This collection of what appears to be unedited camera work looks at the racers of that year. You will note the track environs:  trees, culverts, curbing and water troughs in the infield.  It is also apparent that there were no restraint systems for either mechanic or driver. Due to the procrastination of Henry Ford in getting the Ford team underway, there was only 79 days left to go from a scratch design to the finished race car. You will see some of the cars being built near the end of this 35 minute film.  A design oversight in the steering caused all Ford cars to fail early, the longest lasting 134 laps. This embarrassed Henry so much that he sold the cars and that marked the end of the brief Ford racing activity until the mid 1950's. Film: "Pikes Peak Hill Climb Race":  In six minutes you get the full flavor of the 16th annual Labor Day National Hill Climb Race up Pikes Peak, Colorado. The 1934 roadsters were driven by noted drivers Glenn Shultz, Angelo Chimino and Buss Hammond. Film: "33,000 Miles in 33 Days":  Although this eleven minute film is not actually a race but a 1934 endurance run, it points out how correct lubricants and maintenance can lengthen a car's life. The car averages 41.8 mph and 19.6 mpg for the full 33,000 miles, using only 3.5 quarts of Pennzoil per 1000 miles.
