Capital Airline Present a New concept in flight .... Original 1952 Capital Airlines promotional footage highlight the virtues of the Vickers Viscount - the first turboprop medium range airliner. The Viscount first flew in 1948 and started airline service in 1950. The advantage of a turboprop engine is reduced vibration as compared to a piston engine. Capital Airlines was one of the first US airlines to order the Viscount. The Viscount used (4) Rolls-Royce turboprop engines. In the Rolls-Royce Aviation Engine Plant, see some of the different precision tools used in engine manufacture and testing. The different assembly and test phases of Viscount manufacturing are also shown in the Vickers assembly plant.
